Here is a tip on how to solve these problems.
To find the volume of a triangular prism, we will use the formula Volume = Area of the triangular base × the length of the prism. V=(½bh)l
In the first example, the base (b) of the triangle is 6, the height (h) of the triangle is 4, and the length (l) of the prism is 5. Now we can fill in the formula.
V=(½bh)l
V=(½×6×4)5
V=12×5
Volume=60 yards³
To find the area of a triangular prism, we essentially are finding the surface area of the two triangular bases and adding that to the surface area of each rectangle. The formula we will use is SA=(2(½bh))+(lw+lw+lw).
In the fist example, the base (b) of the triangle is 6 and the height (h) is 4. The length (l) of the first rectangle is 5 and the width (w) is 6. The length (l) of the last two rectangles is 5 and the width (w) is 5. Now we can begin to fill out this formula.
SA=(2(½bh))+(lw+lw+lw)
SA=(2(½×6×4))+((5×6)+(5×5)+(5×5))
SA=(2×12)+(30+25+25)
SA=24+80
Surface Area=104 yards²
