Watch your students’ understanding of geometry grow with this FREE printable worksheet! This drill page is a great supplementary resource for teaching how to find the surface area of three-dimensional objects, like cylinders. Here is a tip on how to solve these problems.
To find the area of a cylinder, we essentially are finding the surface area of the two circular bases and adding that to the surface area of the tube. The formula we will use is SA=2πr(r+h).
In the fist example, the height (h) is 5mm and the radius (r) is 4mm, which is half of the diameter (d) 8mm. Now we can begin to fill out this formula.
SA=2πr(r+h)
SA=2×3.14×4(4+5)
SA=2×3.14×4(9)
SA=25.12×9
Surface Area=226 millimeters² (rounded)
